Creating a Money Making Website that Requires Minimal Effort to Maintain
I read an article in Business 2.0 a few weeks back that finally pushed me over the edge and convinced me that I need to get off my ass and start establishing some sort of presence/real-estate on the web.
How does that saying go “You gotta be in it to win it”?
The article is about a 26 year old guy who works a few hours a week on his website and pulls down around $10,000.00 a month in revenue. Something about minimal work hours and $120,000.00 a year income caught my interest, so much so that I have returned to this article time and time again wondering if I would ever have a snowball’s chance in hell of duplicating even a quarter of this guy’s success.
So what did this guy do to get started?
1) He first purchased a domain name that, although ugly and hard to remember, had residual links in Google that helped it rise high in the search standings. Apparently this was a better decision than starting from scratch.
2) Next he paid a developer around $900 bucks to create a professional looking site based on topic areas that he believed he wanted to cover.
3) He then paid freelance writers (found on the web) to write articles and content that matched up with the topics that he had previously identified as wanting on his site (Sounds like the perfect opportunity for a little VR Assistant help).
4) To keep the site up-to-date and relevant he searches daily through online news sites for topics that could boost his readership. When he discovers something that he would like included he pays freelancers to create the content.
5) In addition to searching through news articles, he also uses Google keywords and Wordtracker to see what people were searching for related to his niche sight. He then uses that info to enhance his site with targeted articles in effort draw in more search traffic.
